Congratulations for winning a place at the best University in the Country. When the ecstasy of the UCAS Track message changing from offer to acceptance wears off you will inevitably have to dip your toes into the vast ocean that is the world of Cambridge Societies.
The Cambridge University Conservative Association (CUCA) is one of the oldest and most prestigious Societies in Cambridge, with the first meetings of the association held in the 19th Century. Twenty-two former chairmen have been elected to Parliament since Lent 1950, including eight in a row from Michaelmas 1959 to Lent 1962.
CUCA has a well-established history of attracting a high calibre of speakers, often including Cabinet ministers and former Prime Ministers. Recent visitors have included John Major, Michael Howard, Iain Duncan Smith, John Whittingdale and Patrick McLoughlin.
The Association is perhaps best known for our frequent social events, including Port & Cheese evenings, Gin & Tonic receptions, Port & Policy, and the highlight of the University term, Chairman’s Dinner. CUCA is the largest of the Cambridge University political associations, our events are so agreeable that our membership has included labour MPs and even Nick Clegg.
