Announcement of new Vice-Presidents

We are very pleased to announce that the Michaelmas 2013 Committee appointed eight new Vice-Presidents of the Cambridge University Conservative Association. As alumni of Cambridge, many of whom were Chairs of CUCA, it is a pleasure to receive the support of these prestigious Conservative statesmen and thinkers. It is my honour to inform you that the following individuals have been appointed as Vice-Presidents.

Lord Blackwell was Chair of CUCA in Easter 1973, is an alumnus of Trinity College, was the head of John Major’s Prime Minister’s Policy Unit from 1995 to 1997, and has been a Conservative Peer since 1997.

Lord Brittan was Chair of CUCA in Lent 1960, is an alumnus of Trinity College, held a number of important ministerial positions during Margaret Thatcher’s premiership, was a European Commissioner from 1989 to 1999, and has been a Conservative Peer since 2000.

Lord Deben was Chair of CUCA in Easter 1961, is an alumnus of Selwyn College, held a number of important Cabinet positions during the premierships of both Margaret Thatcher and John Major including the post of Party Chairman, and has been a Conservative Peer since 2010.

Lord Fowler was Chair of CUCA in Michaelmas 1960, is an alumnus of Trinity Hall College, held a number of Cabinet positions during the premierships of both Margaret Thatcher and John Major, and has been a Conservative Peer since 2001.

Lord Flight was Chair of CUCA in Michaelmas 1968, is an alumnus of Magdalene College, was a Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2005, and has been a Conservative Peer since 2011.

Peter Lilley MP is an alumnus of Clare College, was Secretary of State for Social Security from 1992 to 1997, and has been a Conservative Member of Parliament since 1983.

Lord Parkinson is an alumnus of Emmanuel College, was a prominent Cabinet minister during Margaret Thatcher’s premiership where he held the post of Party Chairman and Secretary of State for Energy, and has been a Conservative Peer since 1992.

Andrew Roberts was Chair of CUCA in Michaelmas 1984, is an alumnus of Caius College, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a prolific political commentator, and a critically acclaimed historian.
