Having just stumbled upon this article in 2010 I have to say that I never expected to see such a good article from some students. Well done, even if you are more of a libertarian than a Conservative.

Yasmin Alibai Brown, a regular on the BBC and its Dateline London TV programme on 16 August , was talking about the Daniel Hannan, the NHS and the American attacks on it and Obama as a Nazi and a socialist.

She said it was the first time in 37 years that she had felt patriotic (since coming here in 1972 from Africa). – Amazaing

She said today, I feel extraordinarily patriotic. This is only time she has ever gushed about National Socialism

I wonder who she supported in the recent cricket?

"I tried to be fair to him, put aside my natural loathing for upper-class, privileged and smart blokes."
"There are white men who can do television travel exceptionally well"

"Chakrabarti has demonstrated over the years that she will not stand up for those whose views she deems unacceptable. She will not defend unpleasant views. She will not speak out for unpleasant people."

As an asian from a country riddled with mass outward immigration out of wealth and opportunity, not out of poverty, its troubling that many dont realise racism is deep seated and diverse in various sections of western society. There's a troubling desire to abandon Asian roots someone influenced by Western cultural imperialism and there are people who collectively classify countries - French are snobbish, Italians are racist, Britain is somewhat here not there...

I thought your article was great and the bottomline is with globalisation, sociopolitical issues are more complex than ever. We need to stop having a Confederates vs Union broad stroke of the brush labelling. (Even then, there were dissenters on both sides.)

The worrying thing as you pointed out is that this makes the perceived "anti-racist" left dangerously complacent and blind to racist elements within their numbers while isolating and further aggravating the existent racist right conservatives, both of whom must not be condoned or encouraged.
